Stories

The 24-hour format: where you can choose it, which networks accept one, and the caption rule that catches everybody out.

A Story is the 24-hour format rather than a feed post. TrendSuite can publish one, and the rules around it are narrower than most people expect, so this page is mostly about the edges.

Where you choose it

On the calendar board, in two places:

  • The plus on a day column opens a sheet to write a post, with a Post / Story toggle.
  • Add from this plan lines up the plan's pieces, and each one can be placed as a Story on the networks that accept one.

That board is the TrendSuite Lite calendar, and it is the only surface in the product with a Story chooser. The full TrendSuite app's calendar is the List and Calendar pair described in the calendar, which composes feed posts only.

Which edition you are on is answered in which edition you are on.

Which networks accept one

Platforms that accept a Story

  • Instagram
  • Facebook

Generated from the publishing catalog, so it cannot claim a platform the product cannot actually post a Story to.

Instagram takes a photo or a video Story. A video Story publishes as a Story, not as a Reel.

Facebook Page Stories are photo only. Attaching a video and choosing Story will not produce a video Story on a Page.

A Story carries no caption

This is the rule worth reading twice. Neither network attaches a caption to a Story. Instagram's API ignores the caption field on a Story entirely, and a Facebook Page Story has no caption field at all.

So anything you need the viewer to read has to be in the image or the video. Writing a careful caption and choosing Story means publishing a picture with the words silently dropped.

If the words matter, either burn them into the artwork in Studio or publish it as a feed post instead.

What a Story is good for

The things that do not deserve a permanent slot: a behind-the-scenes moment, a same-day reminder, a poll-shaped question, pointing at a feed post you published earlier. It disappears in a day, so the bar for posting one is lower and the value of agonising over it is close to zero.

Scheduling one

A Story is scheduled and published the same way as everything else: it joins the queue and the worker sends it when it comes due. See what happens when a post publishes.

Time it deliberately. A format that expires in twenty-four hours is the one where posting at 3am actually costs you the audience.
